 Our Story

Alexa Rodriguez and Diego Vasquez-Garcia started this journey while on the Gilroy Foundation Youth Board. When brainstorming capstone projects with their group, they realized that Gilroy had an abundance of resources but lacked the means to discover them. The two teens then formulated a plan to create a hub in which all of these resources could be found easily. After a few weeks of working on a draft website with fellow group members, the idea of the capstone was presented to the Gilroy Foundation admin and board representatives. It became clear that the concern of a lack of accessibility seemed to be also noticed by community members. Following this draft, Diego and Alexa pursued this website, leading them to continue working with the Gilroy Foundation to make this “idea” a reality. Soon, the two understood that this could not be completed without getting the community involved. With this in mind and help from Gilroy Foundation, they contacted Digital NEST (Nurturing Entrepreneurial Skills with Technology), an organization which “empowers Latinx and all youth from underserved communities in California with the skills, resources, and network to build and launch successful careers.” After communicating the idea to Digital NEST, they helped bring their vision to life alongside a handful of teens involved in their program. After working weekly throughout the summer, the website was finalized and officially launched in August.
